Information on Iontophoresis
used in treating excessive hand sweating.
Iontophoresis
works by inducing electrical changes in the sweat glands that disrupts
the sweat production. This works by placing the affected areas in
tap water. A small electric current is then passed through the skin.
This device works well for mild to moderate forms
of hyperhidrosis. However its drawback is the time that is required
to do the treatments. The treatments also have to be continued indefinitely.
Treatment starts with twenty minutes on a daily basis and is tailored
to individual symptoms
Side effects of iontophoresis are few. Affected
areas may crack, become too dry or fissured. If this occurs the
frequency of treatments should be decreased. Most patients report
a tingling sensation and mild pain especially in the beginning of
the treatments.
